UK BANKS BARCLAYS, LLOYDS AND RBS HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED THEIR HISTORIC TIES TO SLAVERY
(CNN) – Three British banking giants have acknowledged their historic ties to slavery.
Barclays, Lloyds Banking Group and the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), issued statements recognizing their position within the slave commerce and committing to do extra to foster a totally inclusive setting.
Slavery was abolished within the UK in 1833.
A College Faculty London database confirmed people linked to companies later absorbed by these banks acquired compensation from the British authorities for slaves after abolition.
