It’s a summer of landmarks for LaGuardia Airport’s long overdue facelift.
Starting next week, travelers will have the ability to utilize seven brand new gates and a recently renovated concourse in LaGuardia’s Airport’s Terminal B Concourse, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Wednesday.
The launching is the newest step in the continuing $8 billion dollar endeavor to overhaul the airport also follows last month’s introduction of Terminal B’s recently designed Departures and Arrivals Halls.
“With the opening of this new concourse, LaGuardia Airport’s Terminal B is hitting two major milestones in one summer and moving closer to its full transformation into a 21st Century travel facility,” Cuomo stated. “LaGuardia Airport is going to be the first new airport in the United States in 25 years, and we’re building it while still operating the old airport. Travelers coming to New York should expect nothing less than a world-class experience, and that is what we are delivering with this modernization project.”
The brand new western concourse and its gates, which have been revealed per month before schedule in a ribbon cutting ceremony featuring The Port Authority of New York along with New Jersey Executive Director Rick Cotton, CEO of LaGuardia Gateway Partners Stewart Steeves, Assemblymember Jeffrion Aubry (D-East Elmhurst, LeFrak City, and components of Corona, Woodside, Jackson Heights, Elmhurst and Rego Park) and Acting Queens Borough President Sharon Lee. The open to the general public on August 5.
“This new concourse will increase our borough’s global competitiveness by offering travelers a welcoming airport experience filled with all the amenities that the world’s airline passengers have come to expect,” stated Lee.
The concourse includes 55 foot high ceilings with floor to ceiling windows, an indoor playground, a children’s play area, along with a designated American Airlines providers dining room. Additionally, it includes spacious touchless baths, a pet support region, and household and nursing restrooms.
Once done by the conclusion of 2021 using a target opening date in 2022, the Western Concourse will possess 17 fresh gates in complete. It is going to mostly serve American Airlines and is going to have a designated American Airlines service desk along with also an American Airlines Admiral Club.
It is going to also have an elevated pedestrian bridge which joins the Western Concourse using the newest Arrivals and Departures hallway exactly enjoy the Eastern Concourse, which opened in December 2018, has. The double pedestrian skyways is going to be the first in a significant airport in the U.S.
