Amazon – Gift return policies at Amazon, Target, Walmart, Kohl’s, Macy’s and more stores

Not everyone always likes the gift they received during the holidays.

If you can relate and are wondering how you can return or exchange it for something else, you’ve come to the right place.

Here are the gift return policies for some big-box retailers, along with sales that are currently being offered if you want to use your store credit online.

Return policy: Gift returns will be refunded as an Amazon gift card after your item is received. Do note, though, the type of refund or credit you receive depends on how the gift was purchased and how it’s returned, according to Amazon’s website. Most items have a 30-day return window.

What’s on sale? Amazon is always offering daily deals, which you can browse here.

Return policy: You have up to 90 days to exchange or return, unless your item is an exception, according to Bed Bath & Beyond’s website.

What’s on sale? Bed Bath & Beyond is currently holding a “Winter Clearance Sale” with items up to 50% off.

Return policy: For gifts returned in store, you’ll receive store credit. For gifts returned via mail, the gift purchaser will be credited and notified via email, according to Best Buy’s website.

What’s on sale? Best Buy is holding an “Outlet Event” where you can find products for up to 40% off through Jan. 10.

Return policy: Most new and unopened merchandise can be returned within 180 days of purchase, unless noted as an exception, according to Home Depot’s website.

What’s on sale? Home Depot is not having any specific sale right now, but you can find deals across many categories, such as 40% off patio furniture, tools and accessories.

Return policy: When returning an item, an even exchange or refund will be provided, according to JCPenney’s website. Without a receipt, items are eligible for an exchange or refund as JCPenney store credit at the item’s lowest selling price within the last 45 days.

What’s on sale? JCPenney is having a winter sale with up to 50% off, and even more in some cases.

Return policy: For items returned with a gift receipt, you will receive a Kohl’s merchandise credit or an even exchange. In-store and Kohls.com merchandise can be returned for up to 180 days after the original purchase date, while premium electronics must be returned within 30 days, according to Kohl’s website.

What’s on sale? Kohl’s is holding a “Home Refresh Sale” through Jan. 6, as well as a “Men’s Basics Sale” through Jan. 10.

Return policy: Most returns with a receipt will be accepted within 90 days of purchase, according to Lowe’s website, which also has a section for exceptions.

What’s on sale? Lowe’s is not having any specific sale right now, but you can find deals across many categories.

Return policy: If you have a gift receipt or a return label, you will get a refund in the form of a store credit, according to Macy’s website. You have up to 90 days to return the item.

What’s on sale? Macy’s is currently holding a “After Christmas Sale” where you can find items for up to 60% off through Jan. 3.

Return policy: When returning a gift, you’ll receive a refund through the form of a Nordstrom gift card. There are no time limits for returns or exchanges, according to Nordstrom’s website.

What’s on sale? Nordstrom is holding its “Half-Yearly Sale” where you can find products for up to 40% off through Jan. 3.

Return policy: Returns with a gift receipt or packing slip are accepted, and you’ll receive a refund in the form of a Target gift card, according to Target’s website.

What’s on sale? Target is not having any specific sale right now, but you can find deals across many categories.

Return policy: Most gifts can be returned or exchanged within 90 days of purchase, including online, according to Walmart’s website.

What’s on sale? Walmart is currently holding an “End-of-Year Clearance” sale across all its categories.
