If your travel rewards credit cards have been sitting in the back of your sock drawer for the better part of last year, you’re not alone. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t still plenty of value to be had from them — even from those that carry yearly membership fees.
That’s the case with new money-saving offers from American Express on co-branded airline and hotel credit cards. Those cards, branded with the Delta Air Lines, Hilton and Marriott logos, are aimed squarely at people who travel often, or would like to. That isn’t happening anytime soon, so Amex is rethinking the benefits it offers: instead of perks like airline lounge access or bonus hotel loyalty points, the cards now focus on providing value for services we all use while staying at home.
The issuer just announced a slew of new benefits designed to help you save money on dining and wireless purchases.
All of these statement credits are Amex Offers, meaning you’ll have to sign into your account, add the offer to your card and use that card on eligible purchases. Let’s take a closer look.
Check your Amex Offers to see other targeted discounts you may have available.
New Dining Credits
If you have a co-branded personal (not business) Delta, Hilton or Marriott American Express card and like to support your local restaurants by ordering in or getting takeout, you’re in luck. Depending on which card you have, you can get up to 11 monthly statement credits toward your purchases, and the offers are valid through December 31, 2021. This counts on orders placed directly with restaurants, as well as with Postmates, GrubHub, Seamless, Uber Eats and DoorDash, a spokesperson for American Express confirmed.
If you have the Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card, you can receive up to $10 back per month. Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express cardholders can receive up to $15 back per month. If you have the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express card, you’re eligible to get up to $20 back per month.
As for the Hilton co-branded cards, Hilton Honors American Express cardholders are eligible to get up to $5 back per month and Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® cardholders can get up to $10 back monthly. If you have the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card, you’re eligible to get up to $20 back per month.
Lastly, Marriott Bonvoy cardholders are also eligible to save some cash on their purchases. Marriott Bonvoy American Express get up to $10 back every month, and Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express are eligible to get up to $20 back each month.
New Wireless Credits
Cardholders who have the business versions of co-branded cards will also receive statement credits, but on U.S. wireless telephone services, not on dining. These offers can be used up to 11 times, one per month, also through December 31, 2021.
Delta SkyMiles® Gold Business American Express cardmembers can get up to $10 back per month, and Delta SkyMiles® Platinum Business American Express can earn up to $15 per month. If you have the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express, you’re eligible to get up to $20 back monthly.
These are welcome perks from American Express at a time when travel rewards credit cards, and an easy way to get value out of your travel rewards credit card even while spending more time at home. Be sure to check which card you have as offers vary from card to card, but either way, you’ll be able to save quite a bit of cash on some of your everyday purchases through the end of the year.
