Muscat: The Ministry of Health will start a vaccination campaign against Covid-19 today using the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, which will be limited to the category of those aged 65 years and above. The ministry released some information about the vaccine.
A statement said: “The vaccine works via a viral vector method so that the modified adenovirus is used as a safe vector of genes that produce the spinal protein of the Covid-19 virus, which stimulates the immune system to produce antibodies and immune cells used by the body later to identify and fight the Covid-19 virus when exposed to it.”
The vaccine will be administered in two doses and the interval between the two doses is 4 to 6 weeks.
Oman News Agency said in a statement: “The symptoms associated with taking the vaccine range from local pain at the needle site, redness and swelling, to feeling fever, nausea, joint pain and general fatigue, and this indicates the initiation of the body’s immune system response to the vaccine and no significant side effects were recorded during the clinical trial phase. These symptoms may differ according to the vaccine used and the different reactions of different bodies to them.”
The ministry added: “Please comply with the health institution’s instructions when taking the vaccine and follow up on the updates.”
