The Knoxville Museum of Art announced the gift of three paintings by famed Knoxville Impressionist Catherine Wiley (1879-1958) from the family of the artist’s grand-nephew, the late Edwin P. Wiley of Milwaukee.

Joan Bienvenue has been named the first executive director of the Oak Ridge Institute at the University of Tennessee, established last year to align the expertise and infrastructure of Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the university in support of world-leading research and talent development. Beginning March 8, she will also serve as a vice provost at UT. Previously, she directed the Applied Research Institute, which she launched, at the University of Virginia.
Knoxville’s Community Development Corporation has hired Richard J. Kingston as vice president of housing. He will direct KCDC’s affordable housing programs and oversee sustainability and modernization. Previously, he was vice president of sustainability for the Housing Partnership Network in Boston.
Balendra Sutharshan has joined Oak Ridge National Laboratory as associate laboratory director for the Isotope Science and Engineering Directorate. He comes to ORNL from the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.
Oak Ridge National Laboratory received three 2021 awards from the Federal Laboratory Consortium recognizing achievements in transferring federal laboratory technologies to the marketplace. ORNL’s awards are for: a large-scale, energy-efficient 3D printer (researchers Vlastimil Kunc, Christopher Hershey and John Lindahl); sustainable cobalt-free battery technologies (researchers Ilias Belharouak and Jagjit Nanda); and securing domestic production of N95 masks during the coronavirus pandemic (researchers Merlin Theodore, Lonnie Love, Scott Smith, and Craig Blue, along with Peter Tsai, formerly of the University of Tennessee).
Nicole Ferguson has joined Summit Medical Group as a physician assistant at Summit Express Clinic of Farragut.
Kara LaRue has joined Summit Medical Group at Shults Pediatrics as a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in primary care. LaRue brings more than 15 years of nursing experience as a clinical nurse in the Tennessee Air National Guard and as a staff nurse in UT Medical Center’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
