Boris Johnson News – Boris Johnson Covid announcement: PM to reveal next lockdown changes in press conference tomorrow
The Prime Minister will make a key announcement in a televised press conference at 5pm tomorrow (Monday, May 10).
Boris Johnson is set to announce whether or not the next stage of Covid restriction eases will be allowed to take place.
The next stage of the lockdown roadmap is scheduled for Monday, May 17, but a decision on whether or not that date can go ahead will be made tomorrow, reports The Mirror.
As always, the government must analyse whether it is safe to ease restrictions by looking at the current Covid situation across the country.
No lockdown ease has been delayed since the roadmap was announced earlier this year, and rates, deaths and infections remain low in most parts of England.
That’s especially true in Essex, where rates are among the lowest in the country.

Regarding the chances of a lockdown ease, Cabinet Office minister Michael Gove told Sky News: “Thanks to the success of the UK vaccination programme, also the good sense of people across the UK, we can progressively relax measures.
“So I anticipate that the Prime Minister tomorrow will signal that we can enter the next stage of relaxation in England on May 17.
“And to add the Transport Secretary indicated yesterday, that means also that some of the rules on international travel are changing as well.”
If permitted, a large number of lockdown restrictions will be lifted next Monday (May 17).
Pubs and restaurants will welcome customers indoors for the first time in nearly six months.
Groups of six or fewer will be allowed to drink and dine indoors, whilst outdoor groups of 30 or fewer will be allowed to gather, setting up back garden BBQs and large pub garden groups.
Indoor entertainment venues will also be allowed to reopen, like cinemas and bowling alleys.
Some overseas travel will even be allowed to reopen, following Friday’s traffic light system announcement.
England residents will be allowed to travel to a select number of ‘green list’ countries and won’t be forced to quarantine upon their return.
Most countries remain off-limits because of surging rates in plenty of countries across the globe.
