Boris Johnson News – Live Essex April 12 lockdown updates as queues form after shops, pubs and hairdressers reopen
Queues are forming outside shops and hairdressers as Boris Johnson’s roadmap out of lockdown continues today (April 12).
The Prime Minister outlined the roadmap in the House of Commons back in February, announcing the exact dates of when Britons can return to life as normal.
And from today, April 12, more of the economy is reopening, with non-essential retail, personal care shops and public buildings finally allowed to reopen after months of being shut.
Clothing stores, hairdressers, museums, gyms and zoos are all allowed to reopen, but only with members of your own household.
Many people in Essex have wasted no time in taking advantage of the relaxed measures, with queues forming outside Primark in Chelmsford.
There are also queues outside hairdressers and barbers in the city centre.
Hospitality is also set to reopen today, but for outdoor service only. People are set to be able to meet as two households or with the rule of six in a beer garden or at a restaurant for outside dining.
Funerals are also allowed to go ahead, with a maximum of 30 people.
Wedding receptions and commemorative events will be allowed, with the number of attendees being able to rise from 6 to 15.
A spring getaway may also be on the cards, as self-contained accommodation like campsites and holiday lets where indoor facilities not shared with other households can also reopen. People can also stay in a self-catering cottage but only with their own household.
