CCL Stock – ENHYPEN Take Us Inside Their Camera Roll to Celebrate New EP “BORDER : CARNIVAL”
It’s been a few weeks since ENHYPEN returned with their bloody bash of an album, BORDER : CARNIVAL, and we’re still deciphering the clues sprinkled throughout the music video for their title track, “Drunk-Dazed.” ENHYPEN are definitely vampires, and have the ability to time travel. But can they also communicate telepathically? And do they have access to the Fountain of Youth? The music video featured thrilling cameos from their I-LANDer pals K and EJ, who are set to debut in a Japanese counterpart to the group later this year. Are the duo there to help ENHYPEN or hurt them? And are they… werewolves?
Accompanying “Drunk-Dazed” are five other tracks that tell the story of ENHYPEN’s journey into a dizzying new world full of danger, deception, and darkness. There’s the eerie “Intro: The Invitation,” the sizzling “Fever,” and the bubbly “Not For Sale.” The group experiences being the “main character” in “Mixed Up,” and then closes with the open-ended “Outro: The Wormhole.”
In celebration of BORDER : CARNIVAL’s release, we asked each member to send a photo that reminded them of a song on the project (and, for Jungwon, the album title) and they delivered. Check out their snaps and creative commentary below!
Jungwon, BORDER : CARNIVAL
This album is all about the drama, dazzle, and dread. It follows ENHYPEN as they enter a new place, a carnival “filled with glitz and glamor” that may not be what it seems. We asked Jungwon to share a photo of when he felt the most glamorous, and he recalled shooting the music video for the title track “Drunk-Dazed.” “I feel like I shine the brightest and am the most glamorous version of myself when I’m performing on stage.” What you can’t see in the photo is that he was worried about, well, ripping his pants. “The clothes I was wearing in this photo were pretty thin, so I was really worried that I might tear it while dancing,” he explains.
Jungwon told Teen Vogue in December that he relaxes by watching YouTube videos of hamsters or squirrels, while Jake and Sunghoon prefer puppy videos and Heeseung opts for a classic cat vid. It’s no surprise, then, that his dream party would include “a mansion where we’d look after horses, dogs, and cats.” That mansion would be “on a private island, where we can sail along the coast as well as ride freely on carts and scooters on land without having to worry about running into things or going over bumpy terrain.” And for special guests, “I’d also invite our friends, family and our ENGENEs to this island so we can have a great big party together and just have a blast dancing and listening to music.”
Jake, “Intro: The Invitation”
This intro track, featuring spoken narration from Jake, Heeseung, and Jay, recounts how ENHYPEN’s frightening fun begins: “An invitation calls to us / From the carnival of the dazzling night.”
