Another Hunter COVID case linked to the Costco cluster
Another person linked to Costco’s Boolaroo warehouse has tested positive for COVID-19.
- There are now seven cases linked to the Costco cluster
- Two new Maitland cases under investigation
- There are now 173 COVID cases in the Hunter New England Health District this outbreak
The new case, from the Newcastle suburb of North Lambton, is one of three confirmed cases in the Hunter region as of 8:00pm last night.
The person was in isolation during their infectious period, Hunter New England Health said.
This brings the number of people in the Costco cluster to seven.
Almost 700 people considered close contacts to the Costco cluster had their seven-day test yesterday.
Source of two Maitland cases under investigation
Today’s other two positive cases are from the same household in the Maitland suburb of Thornton.
Both were infectious in the community and the source of their infection remains under investigation.
This brings the total number of cases in the health district to 173 since August 5.
Eight people are currently being cared for in hospital and one is being treated in intensive care.
Pop-up clinic at Windale
A pop-up testing clinic is being held in Windale this weekend.
The walk-in clinic for the wider community is being conducted in the carpark at the Purple House on the corner of South and Lake Streets from 8:00am to 4:00pm.
A Windale apartment block remains in lockdown after a man living in the James Street complex tested positive earlier in the week.
Charlestown MP Jodie Harrison said people living in the complex must continue to self-isolate in their homes until they receive advice from health authorities.
She said residents underwent a second round of on-site rapid testing yesterday.
“We’re yet to hear the results of those tests, and they’ll have another round of tests on Monday,” she said.
