How to spend your welcome bonus
You’ll get top value for your points at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island and Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi, where rooms routinely go for close to $1,000 or more. But because those properties charge 95,000 points per night and 125,000 points per night for a standard room, respectively, unless you’ve already got a big stash of Hilton points built up, you’ll spend nearly a full day traveling just to stay in a resort for a single night. (Each resort is on its own island, making a mid-vacation hotel switch both inconvenient and costly.)
Instead, try some of these options a little closer to home.
The Waldorf Astoria in Park City, Utah, offers mountain views.

If you’re more into snow than sun, consider cashing in your welcome bonus for a couple nights at the Waldorf Astoria Park City. For just 63,000 points per night, you’ll be in great position to hit the slopes—and to save more than $1,000 per night in cash. Of course, if you’d rather stay warm inside, you can always hit the spa—and the property, with its more than 300 trails, has plenty to offer in the summer, too.
2. Hilton Puerto Vallarta
How do you make a free stay even more free? By using points at an all-inclusive property. Hilton Puerto Vallarta is one such location, and prices are currently low in both points and cash—possibly because of the COVID-19 pandemic—but historically, standard rooms have hit about $660 or 70,000 points per night during peak travel dates. Pro tip: The resort features a newer, adults-only side called the Hacienda, and while those rooms steeper points rates, you may be able to score an upgrade thanks to the elite status that comes with your card.
3. Waldorf Astoria Grand Wailea
Hawaii’s Waldorf Astoria Grand Wailea has rooms that go for around $600 to $700 in cash and charges 95,000 points per night, meaning you’ll need to rack up some extra Honors points with your new card on top of the welcome bonus if you want to stay for more than one night. The resort’s stunning ocean views, swim-up bar, and 50,000-square-foot spa will make your stay worth the high price in points.
4. The Foundry Hotel Asheville
A member of Hilton’s Curio Collection, the Foundry Hotel in Asheville, North Carolina, makes an excellent home base for a weekend of leaf-peeping, hiking, or brewery hopping. Fall is peak season, when tourists flock to the mountain town to get a glimpse of its world-class fall foliage. During October, you can use your points to snag a room for 56,000 points per night, dodging cash rates of nearly $600 per night. Set in a restored steel factory, the Foundry is also walking distance from downtown Asheville and its multitude of shopping, dining, and drinking options.
5. Cliffrose Springdale
To get up close and personal with one of the country’s top national parks, consider a stay at the Cliffrose Springdale, which sits just outside the boundary of Zion National Park. For 56,000 points per night, you can post up in a room that would normally go for more than $560 during the summer months and enjoy Zion’s sweeping vistas from your perch on the Virgin River.
