Disney Stock – 8 Disney Princesses & The Characters They Nearly Ended Up With
Everybody knows that romance plays a huge part in Disney Princess movies. While it might not always be a smooth road to find love for each character, there are some great relationships in the end for the characters. Whether it be Jasmine and Aladdin or Mulan and Li Shang, there are plenty of fantastic pairs that end up together.
However, something that does often take place in these movies is red herrings. Often, the Princesses end up almost dating somebody completely different before finding their eventual partner, whether that’s something that they want or not. So which characters did these Disney Princesses almost end up in a relationship with?
8 Princess Jasmine & Jafar (Aladdin)
Jafar is the main villain of Aladdin, so Princess Jasmine ending up in a relationship with him wouldn’t have been a good thing. However, it’s something that does almost end up happening, with Jafar using his powers to try and convince Jasmine’s father that he should be the man for her.
One of the core storylines in the movie is Princess Jasmine trying to find a suitor. Different characters come in to try and woo her, but to no avail until Aladdin pretends to be a Prince. However, Jafar almost gets his own way when dating her until Aladdin returns to save the day.
7 Merida & The Three Suitors (Brave)
Merida is a Disney Princess that doesn’t end up finding romance in Brave, as her story is completely different. She’s a character that likes to live to the beat of her own drum and being the stereotypical Princess isn’t something that she is interested in.
However, that doesn’t mean that other characters don’t try to make her find romance. One of the big parts of the movie is three different suitors coming in to compete against each other in order to win Merida’s hand, which is something that she isn’t interested in.
6 Mulan & The Matchmakers Choice (Mulan)
Mulan is one of the least romantic Disney Princess movies, mainly because the focus is heavily on the action and the war element of the story. However, she also ends up nearly dating someone else, as the start of the movie is all about her trying to find a romantic partner.
She is sent off to meet with the Matchmaker, whose job is to pair Mulan up with someone suitable after getting to know her. Luckily for her, that meeting ends up going hilariously bad, which leads Mulan on a path that eventually sees her with Li Shang.
5 Rapunzel & Nobody (Tangled)
Rapunzel’s romance with Flynn Rider proves to be a great one, with the two characters coming together perfectly. Even though they squabble and fall out, the two of them come together nicely and end up being fantastic romantic partners.
However, the original plan for Rapunzel is to have no romantic partners throughout her entire life. She is supposed to spend her time in the tower, with only Mother Gothel as company, with romance and love not being an option originally.
4 Belle & Gaston (Beauty & The Beast)
Belle’s romance with The Beast is an unlikely one on paper, but it proves to be a fantastic one nonetheless. However, a big part of the movie is the potential romance between her and Gaston. While Belle makes it clear she isn’t interested in him, that doesn’t mean that Gaston gives up.
He pushes to try and win her over at all costs within the movie, and a relationship between them is always on the cards. However, his arrogant personality ends up proving to be his downfall, with Belle simply not being interested.
3 Anna & Hans (Frozen)
One of the best twists in a Disney Princess movie comes from Frozen when Hans turns out to be the main villain of the movie. Originally coming in and sweeping Anna off her feet, seemingly being the perfect romantic partner, it seems like they’re set to be the characters the audience falls in love with throughout the movie.
However, things don’t work out for Anna and Hans, mainly because he is trying to use her. However, things end up perfectly for Anna in the long run as she ends up finding love with Kristoff, who proves himself to be one of the kindest characters within the movie.
2 Meg & Prince Adonis (Hercules)
Meg is one of the most underrated Disney Princesses, mainly because she doesn’t fall into the classic category of characters that people talk about when it comes to them. However, she is a Princess, and Meg is one that has difficulty falling in love with Hercules, mainly because of how things ended with her previous partner.
Originally, Meg dated Prince Adonis, and that is a relationship that didn’t go to plan for her, which is why she is so sour about love. However, this is one that could have ended differently, which would have put Hercules in a very different position.
1 Pocahontas & Kocoum (Pocahontas)
The best example of a Disney Princess romance almost taking place comes in Pocahontas, because she is promised to Kocoum throughout the movie. The relationship between the two of them isn’t too strong though, as she isn’t that interested in being part of it, despite the fact that he is kind and does try his best.
When she meets John Smith, that relationship truly comes to an end, and she falls in love with John, despite their differences. Kocoum ends up dying in the movie, and that ends up being one of the most emotional parts of the movie, even though Pocahontas doesn’t want to be with him romantically.
