Fortnite – Fortnite’s Twitter Is Telling A Story About Drift’s Return, And A Dangerous New Threat

Something weird is going on with the Fortnite Twitter account right now, and players are glued to it as it seems to be telling an unfolding story outside of the game that will most likely have some sort of impact within it.

As of this morning, Fortnite changed its Twitter icon to be something akin to Drift’s fox mask, and has name dropped him once already as some sort of warning about what’s to come.

I’ll go through the tweets in chronological order, and you can check back to this post as more are added, as they seem to be coming in every 30-60 minutes or so.

This is how it started:

Whoever this is, possibly Agent Jonesy, is trying to contact Drift, the dimension-hopping season pass skin from Chapter 1, in an effort to warn him.

Here the “Fox Clan” is referenced, which clearly Drift is a member of, given his mask, though what exactly the Fox Clan is and why it’s in danger is not clear. This is the first time I’ve heard of the Fox Clan being referenced as an entity in Fortnite. Catalyst is the “female Drift” skin in the game who also has a fox mask, so presumably she’s in the clan as well.

This entire season has been about “hunters” coming in to round up players from escaping the Zero Point (or something like that?) but now this warning says that actually, something is hunting the hunters, something “old and bad.” Some players think this is a reference to The Seven, a long-running, mysterious Fortnite villain organization, but it could be something else, and a reference to something from past seasons, perhaps. The Ice King, Corrupted Cube Kevin, I don’t know. Or something entirely new.

Again, back to the Fox Clan, and this line is something that seems like it’s almost a direct reference to Demon Slayer, the beloved anime that just hit Netflix, as in that show, a demon specifically hunts down a master’s students who are all wearing fox masks over the years, and practically this exact line is uttered. This could be a coincidence, or perhaps…another crossover.

Again, not sure who is talking to Drift here. That’s the last message so far, but again, check below as there will be new updates coming in.

Seems like this is over for now. We’ll see if anything happens in-game now. They actually deleted all these tweets now and reverted the profile back to normal.

We have seen Fortnite use its social media accounts to tease secrets and events and things before, but this is more cryptic than usual, and directly involves a Fortnite “character” in the form of Drift, which we don’t usually see. To date, this season has mainly been about introducing hunters from a wide range of IPs (Predator, Terminator, The Walking Dead, DC, Marvel, Star Wars), but this feels…different.
