The Home Depot – April is Autism Acceptance Month – Children with Autism grow…
A new beginning for one of Stamford’s oldest Churches. Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church will be celebrating this Easter with a new priest. Father Gary K. Sturni, D. Min., from Pomfret Center CT will be joining St. Andrew’s as Part-time Priest in Charge. Saint Andrew’s has been without a consistent priest in the pulpit since the retirement of Father Bart Gage three years ago. Reverend Sturni has extensive experience in helping parishes to re-invigorate their worship, community service, attendance, membership and economic stability. His expertise will provide wisdom and imagination for St. Andrew’s, which has made great strides in redefining itself over the past three years.
Reverend Sturni retired in 2013 as Rector of St. George’s Episcopal Church, Germantown, TN (2004-2013), after 43 years ordained. He moved to Pomfret, CT, with wife Cindy, in 2013, where his retirement has been everything but quiet. He was Priest in Charge at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, Putnam, CT, and St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, Danielson, CT 2016-2018, and recently has been traveling to churches in CT and RI providing worship as a Supply Priest. Reverend Sturni devoted 43 years to churches in California, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Connecticut, including nine years in administration (vice president level) of church related mental health and social service programs in Texas, California and Ohio. Former Administrator of Westfield Village Elderly Housing Center in Danielson, CT, 2016-2017. Board of Directors, Seely-Brown Retirement Home, 2018, Board of Trustees, Pomfret Public Library, 2020. He earned the advanced degrees of Master of Divinity, Master of Arts (New Testament), and Doctor of Ministry.
Reverend Sturni joins St. Andrew’s Church at a time of high energy and creativity in the life of this 160-year-old parish. St. Andrew’s is a diverse and welcoming Anglo-Catholic parish, a sacred space in the midst of Mill River Park and Greenway, next door to UCONN, a witness to the aesthetic and spiritual side of the Stamford community. St. Andrew’s has recently earned a reputation for innovation in worship, as one of the first area churches to stream Sunday worship in the Covid-19 shutdown of March 2020, and host of the popular summer “Unplugged” series of weekly Eucharistic celebrations outdoors. St. Andrew’s welcomes Reverend Sturni’s energy, experience and imagination, as the parish grows and evolves.
In person mass is held Sundays at 9:30 at Saint Andrew’s Church, 1231 Washington Blvd.; Stamford, CT 06902.
