The Home Depot – Child hit, killed in Yakima neighborhood
YAKIMA, Wash. — In what has been described as a tragic accident, a driver hit and killed a young child on Sunday, police in Yakima reported.
The Yakima Police Department said shortly after 2 p.m. that it was investigating an “accidental” crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the area of S 10th St and E Spruce St.
Police noted that a “3-4 year-old” had been struck, “resulting in fatal injuries.”
YPD has been asking the public all afternoon to avoid the area of the 1200 block of E Spruce St. in order to let investigators piece together what went wrong.
Yakima Police Chief Matt Murray tweeted his condolences amid the tragedy.
“This is a tragic situation. I am so sorry for the family, the first responders, and the community. Heartbreaking….”
