Johnson and Johnson Stocks – Natrona County Health Officer calls Johnson & Johnson vaccine potential “game changer”

CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) – The Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine could be coming soon after the FDA deemed it “safe.” It would provide a third vaccine on the market.

During last week’s Casper-Natrona County Health Department board meeting, Natrona County Health Officer and Infectious Diseases Specialist Dr. Mark Dowell called it a “game changer.”

One of the reasons that it could be a game changer is that it can be stored in a refrigerator, said Dowell. “What’s helpful about that is, if identified physicians offices are vaccination sites, and they know their patients, then, they can function as a site to get a lot more people vaccinated quickly,” said Dowell.

Dowell added that since it can be refrigerated it could be available at more places, as well.

The Johnson & Johnson also only requires one shot, which is different than the two shot vaccines offered by Pfizer and Moderna. Dowell’s belief is that this could help reduce the number of people who forget to get their second shot, skip it or receive it later than recommended.

If the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is approved and able to be widespread, Dowell envisioned that people would then have options when getting their vaccine. “Maybe one office has one type, maybe another office has another type, overseen by the state and overseen by public health locally.”

Dowell called the vaccines currently available “incredibly safe” and encouraged everyone to get one as soon as they are eligible.
