Postmedia columnist Lorne Gunter, writing in the Edmonton Sun, has made a cynical but possibly accurate prediction about what’s going to happen in the next federal election.
“You watch,” Gunter wrote, “despite PM Justin Trudeau’s total train wreck on acquiring COVID-19 vaccines, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal voters will ensure his Liberals win re-election, (at least to another minority government) perhaps even this spring.
“The Liberals will play up a single $131 donation made by a racist to a former Conservative MP, and Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto voters will decide that’s more important than Trudeau and his party extending the pandemic and running up deaths in Canada.”
Gunter has accurately summed up the anger and frustration of many western Canadians towards a federal Liberal government they feel does not represent their interests on everything from the future of the oil and gas sector to gun control.
