Luxury SUV – These Are The Most Disappointing Cars Of 2021
In 2021, some exciting cars are entering the market. There are some sports cars, such as the Maserati MC20 and the Audi E-tron GT that are shaping to be absolutely fantastic. Their build quality is looking amazing and many are expecting their performance to be brilliant. However, on the other side of this are some new cars that are looking to be absolutely disappointing.
From issues with the exterior design to problems with some cars not living up to their long-awaited release, this list will explore some of the most disappointing cars of 2021. The cars on this list are still good, but none of them managed to live up to their promises or overwhelm us with their features or performance.
8 BMW M3 G80 (Oversized Grill)
The 2021 BMW M3 is the sixth installment in the M3 family. The car comes in two different variants, one being the 473-bhp version and the other being the 503 bhp CS option. Both are powerful enough to have some fun in and the car can reach 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds, making it very fast.
However, the car is generally just a bit disappointing through its exterior design. The massive grill on the front of the car just looks a bit in-your-face and takes away from the general sleek design of the car. It makes the car look quite aggressive, and looks horrifying.
7 Honda E (Bad Range, Not Available In The US)
The Honda E is actually quite an impressive car. It is Honda’s first mass-produced EV and it reflects how good an EV can be for a city car. It has decent performance too, with 152 bhp and fantastic technology. However, the Honda E isn’t available in the US – which does make it quite difficult for US fans of the Honda E.
Another issue with the Honda E is that its range is quite bad. It also isn’t very big, which is quite disappointing, but it does go hand-in-hand with the car being a city dweller and having a poor range. Despite its great handling, there are some disappointing aspects of the Honda E, which we definitely don’t appreciate.
6 2021 Jeep Gladiator (Doesn’t Live Up To The Hype)
The Jeep Gladiator comes with the fantastic Jeep performance that has come with previous launches by the brand. The brand took inspiration from the Wrangler and put it into the Gladiator. It also a great cargo vehicle, with plenty of room to transport items, but all of this comes with quite a high price attached to it.
However, it has definitely been overhyped. The price of the vehicle goes up quite substantially when the optional extras are added to the car and it isn’t as economical as many would like it to be. It isn’t as good as a Wrangler and, despite being quite a good car in its own right, its power just isn’t as brilliant as it should have been.
5 Maserati Ghibli Trofeo (Subdued Engine)
The Maserati Ghibli Trofeo is looking to compete against the BMW M5. It is RWD and comes with great performance capabilities. It is definitely fast, going 202 mph at top speed and accelerating 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds. It comes with 572 bhp but that is just this little bit less than the BMW M5, even though it is a fast enough motor.
However, despite the Ferrari 3.8-liter V8 engine, the car does not live up to the stronghold that the BMW M5 currently has. It doesn’t go as fast as the M5 and the engine is just a little bit subdued, making it a little bit of a let down for enthusiasts who were hoping it could overtake the M5.
4 VW Golf (Bland And Bad Infotainment System)
The newest generation VW Golf is great as it drives fantastically as ever. There are general improvements to the steering and the car has generally been refined for the 2021 launch. The Golf is really being kept up with in terms of modernity and it remains as iconic as ever.
However, whilst it keeps up with the times, the infotainment system isn’t brilliant. It just isn’t as easy to use as the old infotainment system, and at the same time, the interior of the car is also a bit bland. There isn’t much to shout about and definitely feels a bit synthetic, making the car quite disappointing on this level.
3 Mini JWC GP (Bad Ride)
The Mini JCW GP is the fastest Mini ever released. It goes 165 mph at top speed, so it is incredibly quick and also looks like an incredibly fun car. It is great if one wants to go fast around the corners and is definitely impressive on that account.
However, it just doesn’t come with the usual personality that a Mini has. It is a bad ride because of bad suspension and the automatic gearbox is a letdown too. Disappointingly, the car looks like it would be fast and all, but in reality isn’t that fast especially as though it has wing extensions like a race car, but it doesn’t actually benefit from them.
2 Mercedes Maybach GLS 600 (Overpriced)
The Mercedes Maybach GLS 600 is a luxury SUV designed to compete with the Lamborghini Urus and the Bentley Bentayga. It is definitely suited to those who can afford to spend plenty on a car. The engine is a 4.0-liter V8 which outputs 549 bhp, however, the car is not as brilliant as it appears.
The car isn’t that fast and it isn’t as luxurious as many would want. For the price of the car, we would expect it to be incredibly fast, but it isn’t as fast as the Urus, making it quite disappointing. Generally, whilst it is a good car and there are some brilliant aspects to it (such as the smooth drive), it is just simply lackluster.
1 Toyota Supra 2.0 (Doesn’t Live Up To The Nameplate)
The 2021 Toyota Supra 2.0 is definitely a good car. Many do like it, but there are some disappointing aspects to it which means that it doesn’t live up to the usual Supra standard. The BMW engine and the fact that it shares plenty with the BMW Z4 is quite controversial for many. It does drive well, and it is reasonably practical for a Supra. However, it has been a long wait and many have been left a little disappointed.
Even though the BMW Z4 was set up to be a cruiser, the Supra somehow ends up being softer than the Z4. As Top Gear wrote, the new 2.0 Supra is a bit placid and it doesn’t live up to the usual Supra level. It is a good car, but it is just a bit disappointing.
