Get ready for a new catchy jingle: Mike Pero… TV Star!
The prominent mortgage broker, whose ads have been gracing our airwaves since the 1990s, will star as the CEO in TVNZ’s upcoming revival of The Apprentice New Zealand.
Based on the American format that ran for 14 seasons starring Donald Trump, before he became president, The Apprentice will see Pero and a team of advisors pit contestants against one another in a series of challenges designed to test their business acumen.
At the end of each episode, the weakest will have to face Pero and his team in the boardroom, where one will be fired.

If the new series follows international versions, the overall winner will take on a role in one of Pero’s companies.
Multi-millionaire Pero launched his mortgage broking business, Mike Pero Mortgages, in 1991, aged 31. The company is now owned by Australian company Liberty Financial.
Twenty years later Pero expanded into real estate sales, launching Mike Pero Real Estate.
The winner of multiple business awards, Pero is also a motorcycle enthusiast and a six-time National Motor Cycle Road Racing champion.
His next venture will be an airline, Pasifika Air, which is expected to begin flights between New Zealand and the Cook Islands in June.
This marks the second time TVNZ has produced The Apprentice; a single season aired in 2010, with now-disgraced property developer Terry Serepisos in the role of CEO.
Pero appeared to be distancing himself from the US and earlier New Zealand productions, saying he would bring a “Kiwi style” to The Apprentice.
“I aim to offer constructive, educational and inspiring advice to those on the show and at home to apply to their own business endeavours,” he said.
The Apprentice New Zealand will launch on TVNZ 1 later this year.
