Playstation 5 – Final Fantasy XIV Gets a Playstation 5 Beta This April – GameSpew
This April sees the release of Final Fantasy XIV’s Playstation 5 open beta.
Playstation 5 owning Final Fantasy XIV fans haven’t exactly been left out, thanks to the PS5’s backwards compatibility. But this April 13th, they’ll be able to get their hands on a Playstation 5 native version of the MMORPG instead of just playing the standard Playstation 4 version.
The Playstation 5 version of FF XIV will initially be released as an open beta, and will feature numerous improvements including “significantly improved frame rates, faster load times, 4K resolution support and more”. In short, it should make a pretty game even prettier.
The current Final Fantasy XIV is, in fact a replacement for the original Final Fantasy XIV which was shut down in 2012. Confused? We don’t blame you. But, as of last June, it had over 20 million registered players, and at one point, 1.5 million active players. Those aren’t quite World of Warcraft numbers but it’s still a hell of a lot of people sneaking, hacking and magicking their way through this fantasy realm. It’s also enough to warrant several expansion packs and multiple game updates.
The Playstation 5 beta upgrade will be free to players who own the PS4 version of the game and anyone who tries Final Fantasy XIV’s free trial. There’s no word on how long the beta period will be but the final PS5 release will be available after that date. April 13th is also the date the game’s 5.5 patch launches, bringing with it new quests, a new dungeon and more so even if you’ve not got your hands on a PS5 there’s a reason to dive in.
