All right for some
I had Thursday and Friday off work so hoped to get lucky, as that’s when the rumoured next shipment of UK PlayStation 5 was going to be available.
I constantly refreshed stock checkers but no joy and by late Friday afternoon I couldn’t be bothered to play that tedious game anymore. The exact point might have been when one stock checker updated with info that Smyths now had the home delivery option selectable for PlayStation 5 when it was disabled before. Surely meaning the page was being readied for orders. The home delivery option is now disabled again, so probably a glitch.
I expect that shipment will be available very soon. But I can’t be bothered to make sure I’m there ready to order one in the nanoseconds before they are sold out again. It’s no one’s fault but it always feels strange some are fairing very well in the pandemic. Gaming is doing very well, digital entertainment in general is understandably very popular. The average house price in the UK has gone up by 15 grand due to the stamp duty holiday and Elon Musk’s net worth has swelled by $150 billion to make him the richest person in the world. Bet he’s got a PlayStation 5.

Cool idea
Hearing that Naughty Dog are working on a ‘cool’ new project gives me some hope that maybe their next game isn’t going to be The Last Of Us Part 3, because I don’t think that’s how they’d describe. I think it’s inevitable that it probably will be but I really wish Naughty Dog would expand their horizons a little and try to innovate gameplay as much as they do making cut scenes.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve enjoyed all their games but it always seems like they could be much more if they pushed the gameplay, which is basically the same whether it’s Uncharted or The Last Of Us. They’ve got basically an infinite budget, so I’d love them to do something crazy and experimental for their next game. But I bet they don’t.
Instead, I imagine there’ll do another The Last Of Us in which they try to redeem the completely unredeemable Ellie and mess up Abby’s story too, because she didn’t turn out popular with fans. Add in a lot of stealth sections that are fun but basically all the same and I feel like I can imagine the game already, without them making it or me playing it.
Maybe I’m being too negative but Naughty Dog are one of the best developers in the world and spending all of their modern era on two franchises, both of which play near identically, seems a waste to me.

Up your alley
Good feature from David regarding Cyberpunk 2077. I can only echo what he said, the game is so compelling to play. For me, the world just begs to be explored. So many times I’ve been distracted by side quests or the multitude of alleyways and streets to investigate. I think the developers have done an incredible job of creating such an amazing world.
One final note, I bought the game on base Xbox One but I was lucky to get an Xbox Series S for Christmas, I couldn’t believe how much different the game plays. It looks and plays so much better, the city is more populated and doesn’t crash anywhere near the amount it did on base Xbox One.
The game should have delayed for the base consoles and released when it when it actually works better. But for those who have a next gen (current gen?) console I cannot recommend it enough. An amazing game.

Arcade break
I’ve found myself in a bit of a gaming rut recently and I’ve really found it a struggle to properly get into new games, I have put down Watch Dogs: Legion after only a couple of hours (sorry, I just found it really boring), Assassin’s Creed Valhalla after 25 hours (again it just felt like a slog) and while I’ve really been enjoying immortals Fenyx Rising I’m not having that compulsion to play that I usually get with a new game (or new console either to be fair, after the initial excitement of the PlayStation 5 with Astro’s Playroom and Spider-Man: Miles Morales my interest in my PlayStation 5 has slowly declined).
I had some Amazon vouchers that folks had given me for my birthday, so I made a decision to choose up Filth 5, extra to provide me a break from third individual open worlds and it has completely helped me get my mojo again. It’s such a terrific recreation and I really like that it has just about finished away with any idea of precise rallying and simply centered on being a terrific arcade off-road racer. Genuinely essentially the most enjoyable I’ve had taking part in a racing recreation in ages – it really jogs my memory a whole lot of Driveclub which was one in every of, if not my favorite racing recreation of the final gen!
It additionally feels nice taking part in it with the DualSense’s adaptive triggers – in all probability first recreation since Astro’s Playroom that I’ve actually observed has made use of them. I want that we bought extra arcade racers, I keep in mind hundreds throughout the Xbox 360 era, however they appear to be few and much between today.

PlayStation drift
I used to be one of many fortunate few to bag a PlayStation 5 (paying over the percentages on eBay) for my son for Christmas. Managed to seize an additional DualSense controller as properly.
Till this week it’s been nice (the controllers are a revelation). Nonetheless, we’ve observed that one of many controllers has developed drift on each analogue sticks. It begins OK however then will get worse over a few hours’ play. It’s worse than the drift on the Change (which we had and resolved) and impacts each sticks. The firmware is updated and we’ve reset the controller a number of occasions.
I puzzled how widespread that is and whether or not different readers skilled the issue? Attempting to contact Sony is subsequent to hopeless for the time being so we’re a bit caught. Any ideas anybody?

Good system
I agree together with your current article about why Sony ought to make one other PlayStation handheld console.
There’s something I wish to emphasise on the declining dwelling console market: the factor is, for a decade or extra, persons are busy with their smartphones. Earlier than, till the tip of 2000s, after I wish to e-mail or test my social accounts or have some on-line chat, I’d use my pc, let or not it’s desktop or laptop computer, however it’d all the time be the pc.
Nonetheless, with the smartphone we are able to do all these stuff on-the-go. Which positively doesn’t make it simpler, simply quicker. I imply, most PC variations of the providers have extra capabilities however cell is correct there, all the time on and prepared.
You can’t struggle with a cell system solely by counting on the old-fashioned techniques. Home consoles? They had been well-liked as a result of they had been cheaper than respectable PCs they usually had been quicker: take the controller, press the button, begin taking part in, drop in on the sofa, go and eat one thing.
Now, the cell phones are cheaper and quicker. Cell is what the consoles had been in 1980s and 1990s. Insisting solely on stationed-devices would find yourself a destiny much like Amiga.
A handheld console, not only for gaming however with social media apps, an honest browser, media participant, music participant – one thing that may not make me drop the console to achieve the cellphone.
Sony has smartphones. Sony has dwelling consoles. Sony had handhelds. I dunno why they’ll’t go for it.

GC: The house console market will not be declining. Unliked handheld consoles, it’s been largely unaffected by the rise of the smartphone – given the experiences are so totally different.
S is for Scott
I agree with Grackle, Leon Kennedy is the very best hero from RE sequence.
As for the villain, regardless that he was solely in it for a small part of the sport Ramon Salazar from Resident Evil is the very best for me. He was like an evil, camp Macaulay Culkin determine who had some good strains. Actual disgrace they killed him off.

GC: We’re shocked and appalled that you simply neglected the S of his center identify.
Huge is gorgeous
I discover myself studying extra articles in regards to the dimension of video games today, with the opinion that sure video games being too large/inflated is a nasty factor. I discover this isn’t the case, personally.
Many individuals love massive video games and in most cases extra is healthier, particularly since video games have grow to be costlier not everybody has the cash to purchase new video games on a whim. Additionally video games like Murderer’s Creed simply wouldn’t be the identical with out this sort of scope, they’ve all the time been constructed on this basis and these video games have a cult following.
Not all goals in video games like Cyberpunk 2077, Murderer’s Creed, and Zelda must be accomplished for the sport to be loved, it’s right down to participant selection and there are various brief video games accessible.
I believe the opinion of lengthy or massive video games are unhealthy and counterproductive, it helps to discourage the thought of them being made within the first occasion. Anybody who finds a recreation boring may simply be taking part in the incorrect recreation for them.
As for microtransactions, it’s arduous to place Ubisoft and EA in the identical bracket. Ubisoft gives boosters and cosmetics for the consumer to get pleasure from, they don’t block pure progress of the sport. As for EA, they gear extra microtransactions as a pay to win mechanic. It’s exhibiting increasingly more in all of their video games, FIFA Final Group card packs being the worst perpetrator of all.
Sustain the great work.
Hollowghost
GC: There’s suspicion that that the previous few Murderer’s Creeds are bloated in the best way they’re particularly to encourage shopping for XP boosters, which is arguably the worst instance of utilizing microtransactions because it influences the sport design in a method that can’t be averted.

So if Fallout 5 comes out in just a few years by Microsoft does meaning it’s not going to be stuffed with bugs and damaged to hell? Of all the businesses I guess Bethesda had been most nervous at what occurred to CD Projekt and Cyberpunk 2077.
Gordon
I’m wondering what the possibilities of Cal Kestis turning up in The Mandalorian is now? Acquired to be fairly excessive I’d guess, given the voice actor. He have to be hoping to hell they don’t kill him off within the video games first!

This week’s Sizzling Subject
The topic for this weekend’s Inbox was recommended by reader Gannet, who asks what do you discover essentially the most annoying cliché in gaming?
The cliché may be something from gameplay mechanics (pressured stealth missions) to recreation design (climbing up a radio tower) to character and story moments (amnesia in Japanese role-playing video games) to the rest that annoys you, from advertising and marketing to voiceovers.
Is the issue as a result of the idea is overused or that you simply didn’t assume it was excellent to start with? Which cliché do you secretly get pleasure from and hope by no means goes away?
