Playstation 5 – Ghost Of Tsushima, Last Of Us 2 Outsold By Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Spider-Man: Miles Morales has managed to outsell The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima in the United States, making it a massive hit for PS5.
Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man: Miles Morales has outsold both Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us Part II, according to the latest sales numbers. Given Spider-Man: Miles Morales has been a key title for the PlayStation 5, while also being available for PlayStation 4 and a more family-friendly alternative to other Sony first-party games, it’s no surprise to see it beating out much more mature games like Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us 2.
Despite Insomniac having only release a few updates for Spider-Man: Miles Morales, the game has sold remarkably well and maintained strong legs. The game was prominently featured in the marketing for the PS5, being heavily showcased as a marquee title for the new console alongside Demon’s Souls. Given its also a sequel to an incredibly beloved PS4 game that’s only a few years old, it had a lot of momentum going into its release in November 2020.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales has continued to break into the top five best-selling games of the last five months, highlighted in an NPD Report by Mat Piscatella. Even with intense competition from major IPs and multi-platform titles, the webhead has held his ground. The Last of Us 2 swept awards season last year and Ghost of Tsushima has sold over 6.5 million copies with a movie on the way, but Spider-Man: Miles Morales hasn’t seen its popularity over other exclusive titles wane since launch.
Of course, Spider-Man is a beloved character. The name sells anything attached to it like hot cakes, especially so when it’s something of high quality like Spider-Man: Miles Morales. PlayStation 5’s first-party offerings have been relatively small so far, as Sony seems to be betting on the second half of 2021 for many of its larger titles, so the latest Spider-Man has been a no-brainer for most customers buying the console. It’s a high-quality cinematic superhero story in a time where superhero media has been notably cut back due to theater closures, so it was bound to sell well.
Some editions of Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PS5 also come with a remaster of the first game, making it a great two-in-one deal with dozens of hours of content in one purchase. Despite still having serious stories, the two Spider-Man games are far lighter than Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us 2, which may be more appreciated after a tough year for many people around the world. A combination of perfect timing and just being a great game positioned Spider-Man: Miles Morales to not only sell well on its own, but likely help rally excitement for PS5, as well.
