This Halloween, audiences will be able to watch a real-life modern horror story as the documentary Hogwood: a modern horror story makes its Netflix debut.
Showcasing the very worst of humanity, the documentary takes viewers on a haunting journey inside Hogwood pig farm in Warwickshire. Investigators from leading vegan charity Viva! decided to investigate the farm after multiple pig skulls and bones were found in nearby woods. What they discovered inside the farm was both heartbreaking and spine-chilling. The team captured hours of shocking footage that sparked widespread outroar when it was given to the press.
However, the sinister story does not end there. As Viva! fought to expose the atrocities that had been concealed within the walls of this factory farm, the charity was faced with multiple hurdles. They went up against huge organisations and major players in the animal agriculture industry, all of whom are complicit in animal suffering and went to great lengths to try and stop Viva! exposing the truth.
What is perhaps the darkest aspect of the film is how far some organisations were willing to go to cover up their crimes. Lies and greed are deeply embedded within the institutions Viva! exposes in this documentary.
Hogwood: a modern horror story joins Netflix’s impressive roster of ground-breaking documentaries including What the Health, Seaspiracy and Cowspiracy.
Speaking about the documentary, its director and associate director of Viva!, Tony Wardle, said: “The findings of the investigations team who went into Hogwood pig farm are horrific. From the first time I saw the footage, I was simultaneously disgusted and disappointed that humans could behave so cruelly. Hogwood: a modern horror story encapsulates everything that’s wrong with our modern food systems: greed, corruption, and appalling cruelty. I recommend that anyone who is curious about where their food really comes from watches it.”
With a run time of just over 30 minutes, Hogwood: a modern horror story is narrated by Game of Thrones legend Jerome Flynn and is now available to stream on Netflix.
