PS5 Games – Xbox Cloud Gaming and Xbox Remote Play Available in the Xbox App for Windows – Games
Sony has been ahead of things like remote play for some time (2006!!)
I remember that between 2012 and 2013 I could play games on my PS4 at home during my work break.
Or I played Diablo 3 in a collaboration with two friends, the game was running on their console in Nijmegen, and I was in Amsterdam as a third person, without a Diablo disc. And that was fine, I just finished that game that way. Sony has never publicized it so heavily, which is a bit of a shame.
But in the end, this is now completely in the cloud. Sony also has that service in the form of PS now
I guess why Sony isn’t streaming PS5 games as it would like. Because this is very heavy in terms of resources. You can do this in two ways. Or you have real data center controllers. or virtualized on rack-mounted servers. Ratchet & Clank is built on a very fast solid state drive with a direct access-like API. Go and do it in the cloud on virtualization of thousands of people at the same time. And yes, placing original PS5s in their data centers is also not possible, since there is a shortage of that. And regular rack servers are now also short on chips, so fast expansion isn’t an option, even if you want to.
In addition, Sony is not a data center company, it is Microsoft, and of course they have everything in-house, an existing infrastructure that is constantly expanding, and in-house expertise.
