Japan’s stock benchmark snapped a four-session rally on Friday, slipping from a more than 30-year high hit in the previous session, as investors booked profits but gains in Toyota Motor and chip shares capped the losses. Nikkei share average edged down 0.14 per cent to close at 29,520.07, after hitting a fresh high since August 1990 on Wednesday. The broader Topix inched up 0.04 per cent to end at 1,931.68.

Biocon Biologics, Viatris gets European Commission nod for co-developed diabetes drug
Biotechnology firm Biocon on Friday said its arm Biocon Biologics and Viatris have received approval from European Commission for their product Kixelle, indicated for the treatment of diabetes. In a regulatory filing, Biocon Biologics informed that Kixelle – co-developed with Viatris Inc – had received marketing authorisation approval from the European Commission following the positive recommendation by the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) of the European Medicines Agency.

Ashok Leyland tanks 8% after Q3 loss
Shares of Ashok Leyland on Friday tumbled 8 per cent after the company reported a net loss of Rs 19 crore for the third quarter ended December 31, 2020. The stock tanked 8 per cent to Rs 124.10 on BSE. The company had reported a net profit of Rs 28 crore in October-December quarter of 2019-20. The revenues for the third quarter on a standalone basis stood at Rs 4,814 crore as compared with Rs 4,016 crore in the year-ago period, Ashok Leyland said in a statement.

NTPC Kameng project’s 4th 150 MW unit commercially operational
State-run power producer NTPC on Friday said the fourth 150 mega watt (MW) unit of Kameng Hydro-Electric Project of its subsidiary North Eastern Electric Power Corporation is commercially operational. Shares of NTPC Ltd were trading 0.98 per cent lower at Rs 96.35 apiece on the BSE.

Drug firm Strides Pharma Science on Friday said its subsidiary, Strides Pharma Global Pte Ltd, has received approval from the US health regulator for Prednisone tablets, prescribed for a variety of conditions, including allergies, respiratory illness and arthritis. Shares of Strides Pharma Science were trading 2.81 per cent higher at Rs 890.10 apiece on BSE.

Rupee gains 10 paise to 72.77 against US dollar
The rupee appreciated by 10 paise to 72.77 against the US dollar in opening trade on Friday supported by positive domestic equities and sustained foreign fund inflows. At the interbank forex market, the local unit opened at 72.79 against the US dollar, then inched higher to 72.77 against the greenback, registering a rise of 10 paise over its previous close.
The immediate supports for Nifty are placed around 15100 followed by 14975 whereas resistance is seen around the swing high of 15250 above which Nifty should resume momentum

ITC shares drop 3% after 12% decline in Q3 profit
The country’s largest cigarette maker, ITC, reported an 11.6 per cent year-on-year decline in net profit for the quarter ended December to Rs 3,662.85 crore. The net profit was higher than analysts’ estimate of Rs 3,600 crore.
