Ford Stock – 2021 Ford Shelby Super Snake: Here’s What We Know
The Ford Shelby Mustang Super Snake is, and always has been, one of the craziest muscle cars (or pony cars) money can buy. The car sits right at the top of the Ford Shelby food chain, only seconded now and again by the odd faster version, such as the Shelby 1000.
Currently, the latest Super Snake is based on the S550 Mustang, which is a model that received some updates – including a minor exterior restyling – for the 2018 model year. Want to know more? Well, we’ve put together ten things about the 2021 Super Snake that you can now get stuck into.
10 Supercharged V8 Power
Under the hood, the Shelby Super Snake features the Mustang’s 5.0-liter Coyote V8. This engine, however, is altered greatly for increased performance compared to the pony car it’s based on.
The star of the show is obviously the huge supercharger. The addition of forced induction allows the Super Snake to produce a grand total of 825-hp – more than your 760-hp Ford Shelby Mustang GT500.
9 Supercar Performance
With so much power at its disposal, the Super Snake is able to achieve a 0-60mph time of only 3.5 seconds – that’s quicker than the Lexus LFA and Aston Martin DB11.
So, while it’s still a Mustang at its core, the Super Snake is able to exude some real supercar performance. Though, it really should do as it has more power than a Ferrari 812 Superfast or a McLaren 745LT.
8 Tire And Brake Package
With 825-hp being sent to the rear wheels, the Super Snake demands a good set of wheels and tires to keep it in check. Fortunately, the model comes with Shelby performance spec tires, as well as forged aluminum wheels.
What’s more, the Super Snake gets Shelby-specific Brembo brakes for excellent stopping power. This brake system also gets its own brake and bearing duct cooling system to stop overheating and keep them working at their best.
7 Coupe And Speedster Bodystyles Offered
For 2021, Shelby has introduced the Super Snake Speedster. It’s essentially a convertible version of the Super Snake coupe, which means it gets all the bells and whistles, including the 825-hp.
Not only does the Speedster look badass, but it allows you to hear that wonderful 5.0-liter V8 and its supercharger all that bit better. The car features a hard tonneau cover where the top stows that runs up to the back of both headrests.
6 Track-Focused Handling
The Super Snake offers some pretty impressive handling out on the track. Aiding its on-track abilities is the fact it comes with the Ford Performance track handling pack for that extra circuit prowess.
That being said, this snake-badged machine is far from tame. The Super Snake, like its predecessors, can still be very tail-happy upon being provoked.
5 Lightweight Features
With the Super Snake’s supercharger and various other additions, it’s no lightweight sports car. However, Shelby has implemented a few things in order to keep the car’s weight down.
Its wide body front fenders, for example, are made from aluminium. Its 20″ one-piece forged aluminum wheels also help it to feel relatively light on its feet.
4 Borla Exhaust
Let’s talk sound. Ford Mustangs, and especially Shelby versions, are known for sounding awesome upon the driver planting their right foot. The latest Super Snake is, as you can imagine, no exception.
The Super Snake gets a Shelby-specific Borla exhaust system. You don’t even have to hear it to know it sounds amazing – because 5.0-liter V8, plus Borla exhaust, equals muscle car throatiness.
3 Automatic And Manual Transmissions Available
Shelby is able to make a Super Snake out of either a six-speed manual ‘Stang or an automatic one. Both manual and auto cars get the exactly the same treatment, although both do receive one extra thing per transmission.
And that one extra thing is transmission cooling for automatic cars, and a one-piece driveshaft for manual models. These additions are exclusive to their respective gearboxes.

2 Limited Availability
Shelby Super Snakes aren’t everyday cars – in fact, they’re really rather rare as not too many are produced. Only 98 will be produced this year, and that’s no random number.
You see, Super Snakes, in addition to Shelby GTs, Shelby GT500SEs and Super Snake Speedsters, are being kept to 98 each as a means of commemorating the 98th anniversary of Carroll Shelby’s birth.
1 High price Tag
Super Snakes don’t come cheap. For a manual model, expect to pay upwards of $133,785 – that’s around $100,000 more than a base Mustang GT. Sure, you do get almost double the horsepower, though you have to be prepared to pay for it.
The Super Snake Speedster demands an even higher premium – $4,995 more than the regular Super Snake. However, for all that cash, do remember that you’re getting a very fast, very exclusive, badass of a Mustang in return.
