Ford Stock – Doug Ford’s handling of the pandemic created more mental-health problems than it fixed
Every day, I oversee my 8-year-old granddaughter’s/Grade 3 online schooling. Over the last several months, her online class has decreased from 21 to an average of 10 a day, and in some classes as few as 2. Where are these children?
Since the last election, the Doug Ford government has increased classroom sizes, reduced public health spending and reduced oversight of long-term care facilities. And where did all that get us in the middle of a pandemic?
Against all medical advice for children to return to school, Ford and his merry dancers of the daily press conference have listened to his business, lobbyists friends in preparation for next year’s election and chose not to reopen schools.
The ‘little guys’ of this province are not in school. It is a joke that Doug Ford repeatedly claims he is for ‘the little guy.’
He chose buck-a-beer and opening bars over the opening of schools. If Doug Ford had spent more time in school than in bars, perhaps he would have valued the education of our children more and their mental health.
To allocate money for mental health services post-pandemic is a knee-jerk response to a growing issue.
Mental health issues should be prevented, not created.
