Inovio Stock – Man Faces Homicide Charges After Brutal Midtown Attack
The man accused of a brutal attack outside of a midtown Sacramento grocery store has now been charged with homicide.
TONY LOPEZ: We begin tonight with a brutal attack outside a downtown Sacramento grocery store, and a father being remembered. Thanks for joining us, I’m Tony Lopez. The man accused of the attack is now charged with homicide. CBS 13’s Renee Santos joins us live, with the interview you’ll see only on CBS 13. Renee.
RENEE SANTOS: Tony, I just spoke to that victim’s daughter. She says her dad would always go to this grocery store behind me. She says her dad often kept to himself, and she doesn’t know why he was punched to the ground.
CHRISTY MASK: My dad was a free spirit.
RENEE SANTOS: Christy Mask is heartbroken over the loss of her dad, 67-year-old Kirk King. He was assaulted earlier this month outside this downtown Grocery Outlet, punched in the face. His injuries so severe, he was left in a coma, later passing away in the hospital. Christy telling CBS 13 her dad was just trying to go to the store the day he was attacked.
CHRISTY MASK: It was an average, regular day for my dad. He was just going to go and get some groceries, and maybe, you know, just walk around and go back to his apartment. For us, it’s shocking, because I know he was just doing what he normally does. And everything changed for him, so–
RENEE SANTOS: She says Kirk had a passion for his city and music, often playing the harmonica during his walks.
CHRISTY MASK: He loved this neighborhood, and he loved Downtown. And he kept to himself and he frequented the local grocery store there downtown.
RENEE SANTOS: Sacramento police have now upgraded charges against 24-year-old Daniel Tui to homicide. The news of Kirk’s passing is leaving customers in shock, as police investigate a motive. Christy leaves this final message.
CHRISTY MASK: I would tell everybody in the community that my dad was a great guy. But you all need to watch your back, because you never know.
RENEE SANTOS: Right now, Sacramento police don’t believe that Kirk knew the man who punched him– who’s accused of punching him. That suspect is expected in court next week.
