Shares of Johnson & Johnson JNJ rallied 2.33% to $166.48 Tuesday, on what proved to be an all-around dismal trading session for the stock market, with the S&P 500 Index SPX falling 0.68% to 4,134.94 and Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA falling 0.75% to 33,821.30. This was the stock’s fifth consecutive day of gains. Johnson & Johnson closed $7.17 short of its 52-week high ($173.65), which the company achieved on January 26th.

The stock outperformed some of its competitors Tuesday, as Roche Holding AG Part. Cert. RHHVF rose 0.96% to $338.72, Merck & Co. Inc. MRK rose 1.17% to $78.57, and Pfizer Inc. PFE rose 0.26% to $39.03. Trading volume (14.0 M) eclipsed its 50-day average volume of 7.4 M.
