CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. —
An Emerald man who stole a pair of pants from Walmart because he was soaking wet and wanted dry clothes was recently given a suspended sentence.
Dallas Dwayne McLean, 20, appeared before Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Charlottetown where he pleaded guilty to the theft.
Crown attorney John Diamond told the court that on Nov. 13 at around 2:30 p.m., the police responded to a call at Walmart in Charlottetown after store security stopped McLean outside with several stolen items.
The court heard store staff saw McLean shove a pair of pants under his jacket.
Diamond said McLean was soaked to the skin and wanted dry clothes.
The total value of the stolen items was about $30.
With the suspended sentence, which was a joint recommendation from the Crown and defence, McLean will be on probation for one year.
McLean must also write an apology letter to the store’s manager.
