2.) Pregnant woman in New Boston dies after baby cut from womb
A pregnant 22-year-old woman has died after an assailant cut her baby from her womb on the morning of Oct. 9 at a residence in New Boston. The woman was approximately seven-and-a-half months pregnant and the infant did not survive. The suspect, 27-year-old Taylor Parker, has since been arrested and charged with capital murder and kidnapping.

3.) Texarkana sees first death of coronavirus patient
A 70-year-old local woman who tested positive for the new coronavirus died in late March at Wadley Regional Medical Center, her husband said. The death marked the first fatality related to the disease in Bowie County.

4.) DeKalb woman charged in sexual assault of a child
A story released in late January told that Angel Sunshine Chavez, 25, was arrested on a charge of aggravated sexual assault involving a 12-year-old girl. Angel Sunshine Chavez, 25, was arrested by the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office in mid-November, according to Bowie County court records. Chavez allegedly kissed, showered with, and performed a sexual act on the girl.

5.) Arkansas-side Walmart barricades its doors
Entrances at the Walmart on Arkansas Boulevard were barricaded by pallets of bottled water Sunday evening after the store’s closing. According to a Texarkana, Arkansas, police officer at the scene, there were concerns following a reported looting at the Walmart in Daingerfield, Texas.

6.) Two prisoners indicted after livestreaming from local jail
Two Arkansas prisoners who were allegedly caught livestreaming to social media from the Bowie County jail on illegally possessed cellphones in August were indicted in December by a grand jury. A lieutenant working in the jail received a call Aug. 23 from police in Hope, Arkansas, informing them that Barker and Cage were allegedly posting to Facebook Live.

8.) Former Texas High staff member accused of having sex with three male students
A former Texas High School staff member was arrested on charges around July of improper relationship between educator and student and sexual assault of a child. Ashlyn Faye Bell, 24, was accused of engaging in sexual misconduct last fall with three boys, two of whom were 17 and one of whom was 16, according to probable cause affidavits. Bell was employed from Aug. 5, 2019, to May 22, 2020, as an instructional aide, according to TISD.

9.) Body found in woods in Texarkana believed to be a suicide
A man found dead in the woods off of County Avenue in early January was believed to have died by suicide, according to the Texarkana, Arkansas, Police Department. No foul play was suspected.

10.) Area officials announce emergency, disaster declarations | Texarkana asks citizens to observe new curfew
Local leaders on on March 18 made official disaster declarations in response to the novel coronavirus pandemic. Miller County, Arkansas; Bowie County, Texas; and both cities of Texarkana made the move, which allowed access to emergency funding and other support from Arkansas, Texas and the federal government that otherwise would not be available.
