Zillow – Beyonce, Jay Z Lose Home-Bidding War To Minecraft Creator
Beyonce may be “Queen Bey” but cash is still king, as shown by the $70 million in cash “Minecraft” game creator Markus “Notch” Persson put down to best her and Jay Z’s real estate dreams.
The Swedish billionaire bid the same $70 million as the couple, but his bid was no-strings-attached cash. The sale closed in 6 days.
This is the biggest sale in Beverly Hills history, and came complete with cases of Dom Pérignon. Persson is now used to closing big deals, as he and his co-founders sold Mojang, the company that owns “Minecraft” to Microsoft for $2.5 billion earlier in the year.
The home that sparked the bidding war is an 8-bedroom, 15-bathroom, 22,300-square-foot home with stunning views of downtown Los Angeles and Malibu Beach from nearly every room, including the bathrooms. In each bathroom, there is a Toto Neorest toilet costing $5,600. To outfit all 15 bathrooms, that’s a total of $84,000 on toilets alone.
From there, the amenities continue to be mind-boggling, including a curved 54-foot glass door that opens with the touch of a button onto the pool deck. There, an infinity pool opens to city views and fountains that are controlled with an iPad. There is a car showroom, a screening room, a vodka bar, a tequila bar and a room just to hold giant dispensers of candy.
Persson purchased the home furnished, so he can now eat his dinner at the 18-foot onyx dining room table. The table seats 24, should he have company, and he can use the good china: Roberto Cavalli place settings worth $3,700 each.
Beyonce and Jay Z won’t be out in the cold, though. They love to rent luxury homes, such as this modern Holmby Hills mansion they stayed in during their On the Run tour and a Hawaiian hideaway, which is also one of Jessica Simpson’s favorite retreats.
